THE $TATUS FACTION

Screen Fiends Installation #2

DIAL 1-800-SUICIDE

Going backwards in time!  We’ve covered 2 of the 3 sculptures we built for the “Screen Fiends” show.  Besides the Monster Fridge, this was our other anchor installation for the gallery.  This piece actually was staged outside of The Atlanta Bench gallery for the reception, but ultimately installed in the streets.

The content was a staged living room complete with rug, furniture and massive blood stains.  It contained a suicide scene of a reclining obese man watching a television set.  “The Status Faction” is on the tv screen.  The incredibly gory head is blown right off and the gun is still in the victim’s hand.  Blood and brain matter everywhere!

Here are some process photos:

After we finished the sculpture we transported it to The Atlanta Bench for installation during the Screen Fiends reception.

Here’s Some photos of the suicide dude at the gallery.

What we REALLY wanted to do with this dude was not leave him in a gallery for a month to rot.  We wanted this whole thing in the streets.  Ideally as a piece of frightening public art- which we accomplished.  This wouldn’t last a second on a neighborhood street corner, it;d scare the shit out of someone, the police would come and it’d be disposed of immediately.

However, this NEEDED to be in a better setting for the piece to really succeed.  There was to be blood EVERYWHERE, which was not in compliance with the landlord of gallery.  After the reception a perfect solution was devised- abandoned house.

Here’s an animated .gif, created from still photos,  that shows the scene from the outside of the house to walking inside as a first-person perspective. It’s grainy compared to a video- but it surely works to get that creepy-ass vibe!  Following is an AMAZING still that really does the sculpture justice.  Note the crazy red stain on the back wall and footprints on the rug.  This piece came out sick!  While it was entertaining in the gallery environment, his final resting place is unequaled.
