Street Art Pop Up! & Brand X

TSF was going to write the title of this post “Street Art Pop Up x Brand X” but that’s too many X’s!
THIS x THAT!  YOU x US.
Whatever with that! HA!

More photos and press have surfaced from BOMIT’s recent venture of L.A.’s
STREET ART POP UP STORE. The latest word is that several of the merchandised artwork will be available online,  which is great news for those who do not live in beautiful Southern California.

Here is a really rad 360 degree view of the gallery space. (photo borrowed from Bomit)

During the latest T$F’s recent trip to court we had some time to kill and grabbed a copy of
Brand X Newspaper.

The cover story was about J.R. and his recent blow out in L.A.

The entire issue was about graffiti and street art, fairly interesting and certainly fashionable.

Flipping to page 17, there is an article and a few photos from the gallery/store reception

The press is great, and we are proud of Bomit for following through on his dream!
We were especially pleased to see a photo of our installation in the newspaper.
With so many talented artists involved, and such a vast diversity of styles,
it was a large compliment to be selected. Very “satisfying.” (insert LOL here)

Here is a detail of the photo.

Shout outs to Septerhed, Eeep! (theory campaign), and the other dude whose work was photographed- who is NOT Bigfoot.

THE STORE IS STILL OPEN- GO CHECK IT OUT – THAT SHIT’S FRESH!

WORTH A MENTION – CHEAPEST KRINK MARKERS IN TOWN!  WOOT WOOT.

Confront Challenges with Courage

“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it.
The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”

-Nelson Mandela

Perhaps the best way to understand courage is to define its opposite state. Many would suggest the antithesis of courage is “cowardliness” … avoiding or succumbing to pressure, difficulty, and danger. Others would say “fear” … being afraid to do the right thing when the going gets tough. And there are those who would offer “conformity” … letting things continue the way they are because of the high price associated with changing them all. All of those definitions are valid and appropriate.

As a leader, you need courage to do what is expected of you … to do what you’re there to do.

Even the very best leaders must occasionally pass the courage test. The true measure of your leadership effectiveness is the ability to look in the mirror and know that you had the strength and courage to do what, deep down inside, you knew was the right thing to do. And it’s that very fact that leads to the commandment: Confront Challenges with Courage.

Los Angeles Legal Problems

The worst part of last week was spent at the Los Angeles County Municipal Court House.

Here’s a funny conversation from later that night:

THIRD1: “I’m exhausted after all that shit, standing around there and waiting for all that shit, spending all that money, and waiting in long lines got me burnt out, I’m going to crash early tonight”

PHYLO: “Yeah, I’m usually tired after getting fucked in the ass too”

THIRD1: “HaHaha FUUUUUUUCK!”

PHYLO:Yes, I’m trying to”

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

The weirdest part of going to court isn’t the gigantic line of creeps waiting to get inside the building (which wraps around the fuckin structure), but rather the fact that the courthouse is murked-the-fucked-out with graffiti.  The bathrooms are TRASHED.  Scratch tags on every mirror/door/wall.  Lighter burn tags on the ceilings above the toilets, which are also scratched tagged on the seat (nasty!). In addition to all that jazz, the phone booths on every floor are mashed!  They look sick, a couple heavy hitters I spotted in there (Koder, Wisk, DFW, etc) but mostly gang-related tags.

Here is a small collection of these phones:

WELCOME TO L.A.!

Honesty, Integrity, Loyaltyyy… Shit like that.

We do we– and often forget lots of things, but at the end of the day we remember what is of the utmost importance… The ones we love, the ones that we call FAMILY. Life changes so quickly. If you don’t own up and own your part in things, you just might end up cold and alone. It’s very easy to blame others and/or the world around us falling apart, all around us… With every breath that is taken, every move we make, we do it with confidence, strength, and knowledge towards the future… OWN UP, MAN UP, STAND UP!!! and take whats yours!!!!

and if you take down a sticker!!!! FUCK YOU!!! We XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX it by?????

The guy I scratched out fucking sucking sucks, he didnt even design that stupid ass sticker.
sometimes we need to take initiative, just ask Die…
The T$F Stickers have been running since the “Screen Fiends” show in ’08.

Hope you take it all to heart…. We remain.

Street Art Pop Up Store re-cap

Last night was the grand-opening of BOMIT.COM’s STREET ART POP UP STORE.

In our opinion it was greatly successful. Only 10 minutes after the doors opened the place was crowded as fuck.  Great turnout. The Status Faction had the pleasure of meeting some new friends, new fans, and even better our old homies and crew.

We were in an exceptionally good/friendly mood last night, but in hindsight, we feel the shit was sort of a scene building outside. We suppose street art is a “scene” but must we remind the public that T$F is not scenesters?!?

We do what WE do and you do what YOU do. We don’t give a motherfuck about fitting in or pleasing anyone.  It smells a little fishy if cats are getting into this street art scene to make cheddar, to make friends, to be accepted, sell gallery work, or sell some clothes.  Go join a band, hang out at the same night club week after week, play competitive sports or just piss off.  Any of these fake ass busters won’t be around in 2012.  Success is only measured with TIME. Think about that. Just because you put up a few dinky posters or a 1000 stickers doesn’t mean you’re down.

Not to tug our own dicks- but the members of The $tatus Faction have been doing dirt for a loooooong time.  We ALL come from graffiti.  We’ve hit trains, rooftops, tags, rollers, bombs and burners for years and years.  We’ll easily bust out some flicks of illegal masterpiece from 12+ years ago- just ask. We might not have all been on the cutting edge of  street art when it divided from graffiti, but we’ve evolved and we also hold our roots close to our hearts.  WE DO US. We do whatever the fuck, and we do this shit with grimy style.  We know the rules, we play by the unwritten rules, the rules of GRAFFITI.  It’s about respect, and when you disrespect someone and their contribution to the street, get ready for retribution. Fall back on the smiles and the 5-year plans.  Chill out on the spotjocking, side busting and xerox trash you put over someone else.  Get the fuck off google images, drop the clip art and figure this shit out.

If we continue seeing this incestuous scene, T$F is going to employ a janitor to follow us around and mop the barf off our dirty shoes.

The sun is shining! Good morning world!

Here are some pics of our installation for the show.  Click the pics to enlarge.

Props again to Bomit for building his dream!
